It is time to say…

Wow! After long weeks of absence in blogging, I can’t believe I am back now. I thought I left my fondness on blogging during those times that I only have time for sleep, eating, and work, work, work.  Oui, working in a very complex situation. Working in a humanitarian response that seems like you’re in a cyberspace. Physically invisible, yet mentally visible. You know you are a part of people and groups that helps alleviate suffering as a result of disaster, but it is not possible to tell everybody and the whole world that you are a part of it because of the call of the situation.

Oui! (Thanks to Vincent, I learnt few French from him) If you are a regular visitor of my blog, you will get a little idea that I am talking about the humanitarian situation in Myanmar after Cyclone Nargis left hundred thousands of people in distress and suffering. To clarify doubts, it is time to say I didn’t work inside Myanmar. I worked outside of Myanmar to support in the humanitarian response. It is a bit weird, right? But it’s not totally weird. What is significant is we are able to reach the most in need through the Myanmar existing organisations, and starting the capacity building from what is existing.

This might not be the usual humanitarian operation that our organisation or most of the international organisations dwell in, but on the other hand, it is positive in the side of sustainability or lasting change and capacity of the people/organisation to serve and response to the needs of its own country, own community even without our support in the long run. If there are support needed, but it also give us assurance that the people/organisation resiliency from disasters increased.

Myanmar is just one of many contexts that is very unique in its own way compared to other countries like Bangladesh, Indonesia, India, Peru, etc. But it is really a challenging and good learnings for all humanitarian NGOs and Agencies all around the world. The response in Myanmar is a must-documented one! I also think, that in the future, it will play a big part in humanitarian studies. Because, it definitely tested the flexibility, knowledge, and patience of all organisations in the world.

Lastly, it is such a pleasure and a treasure to work in a pool of people who has very broad experience in big emergencies. It is really a wonderful experience for a neophyte like me. :-)

And of course, before ending my first blog article this month of June, I thank those people who regularly visits my blog. PLUSSSS, how could I stop saying a BIG BIG BIG THANK YOU to those who expressed their support, it is really touching. And I apologise, if I can’t divulge a lot for now, because it is yet not the right time. However, I will be posting more blog entries with my experiences during the weeks, months that I disappeared from blogging. So watch out for that! :-)

Oui, it is time to say, I AM FINALLY BACK!

  1. Welcome back Baikong. Good to hear from you. I think because you disappeared from the virtual world we thought that you’d vanished into the Myanmar wilderness! I’m sure the experiences of the last few weeks have been big for you and I look forward to hearing about them.

Glad you could help the people of Myanmar.

  3. Please keep posting on the happenings of the people in Burma. If we keep Burma/Mayanmar in the spotlight things will start to change more rapidly. Keep up the good work. Jack Slade http://www.storminternationalcorp.com
