February to February: Blogging History 101

Time flies so swiftly just like a wind. I never thought that I have been blogging for a year now in wordpress. Yipeeee! Yes, my archives just reminded me, that “hey, don’t you remember those days that you were thinking twice to try or not the web 2.0 especially blogging?” And here are the flashbacks how I really started in blogosphere…

Before 2006

I was keeping a journal with me since my childhood days. I love writing. I love expressing myself through writing. But it wasn’t that consistent as I always lost one of my journals, or I just don’t like the design of the journal notebook I have, or I am tired of writing only about my crushes, admirers, and some teenage conflicts. I didn’t realize that I really have this gift in writing until my teacher in Grade 6 chose me as the Editor-in-Chief our school paper. I thought it was like another extra-curricular activities in school, similar to other activities I participated and won. But it was not, I carried throughout these years. It is a God’s gift.

Year 2006

I have a friendster account since 2005. But it was only in 2006 (if I am not mistaken) that blog section is integrated in friendster. I tried it and wrote some few lines and paragraphs. I have received comments from my readers who are also my friends in my account. The first time I received the first comment in my blog is like receiving a candy as a child. The feeling is priceless. Thus, I was encouraged to write more. But I was looking for something more. Something is missing… audience and various themes of my blog. I stopped for a while.

Year 2007

Weblog, blogging, online journal (whatever you call it) and other social networking sites are building up its space in the cyberworld. Since I was always mobile and online, these web 2.0 platforms are the one I need – to keep writing my random thoughts, rants, advocacies, and passion. This was the year I was introduced to wordpress.com by a dear friend and colleague Tul. He’s a communication expert! So I always ask advices and we share thoughts professionally and personally. WordPress interface seems simple, interactive, and elegant, I should say. Now, I found my new journal! This is my partner to gain readerships, sharing of ideas and experiences with people across the globe, earning new friends, and spreading my passion in life.

February 2008

I officially started my blogging experience. At first, I thought it is easy to take off. Yes, in writing it is. But I want to fulfill something about what I want to blog and what I want people to know about me base on what they read and see in my journal. I learn the blogging tips through searching and analyzing other good blogs, visiting the forums, and going back to myself – the person I am. I posted my first blog entry. It is only a one-liner question. Those were the time I feel so depressed about my lovelife. But thanks to it, in just a month, I made nine (9) blog significant entries! In this month also I posted a blue rose photo, which I didn’t expect to generate most traffic to my blog.

March 2008

I wrote stories about the plight of women in Mindanao. Above my expectation, I was so happy to see my blog as one of the fastest growing blogs in wordpress. 15-minute of fame ain’t bad at all! I also introduced my first guestblogger, Angry African on the Loose. I just admire his passion to what he is fighting for. And I ask him to write for my blog about women empowerment. And he did an impressive work, the story about her African mother.

April 2008

My second guestblogger was introduced. His name is Matt from environmentdebate.wordpress.com writing in the midst of rice crisis last year and three more entries.

May – October 2008

These are the months I spent less time with my online journal as I became so busy at work.

November 2008

I was again officially back in blogging. I miss it! I miss posting new entries, replying to comments, changing my blog theme now and then, updating my avatar and moods, and drafting new entries but never posted!

February 2009

This is the month and a year to celebrate my anniversary in blogging in wordpress. This is my only blog on the web I maintained and loved so much! And I want to post more entries as I want my grandchildren and grand-grandchildren to get to know more about me by reading my entries.

Right now, the only thing I ponder is how did you start blogging? What encouraged you to blog? What encourage you to share a piece of your work?
