1. Calculating my Ecological FootPrint

A good start to kick off Earth Day on my own is giving sometime to take the Footprint Quiz. A very friendly official website of Earth Day welcomed me with a very child-centered quiz on calculating how many planets we need if everyone lives a lifestyle the same as I do. Even though the quiz only has two countries (US and Australia) to choose from, I chose Australia, since it’s near to Philippines.

Surprisingly, the result is we need THREE (3) planets to live a lifestyle like I do! I was saddened you know. I thought I am much help to our planet. The upside is, taking the quiz made me realized that I should do and act more in caring for our home.

Take your own quiz and let’s compare notes!

2. Less meat, less egg

Now, I should start eating less meat and especially lessen egg consumption. Honestly, I don’t really eat a lot of meat. I don’t eat pork because I am a Muslim, so that’s a plus factor. Beef ain’t really my fave. But deep fried chicken is irresistible to me. I love eggs, honestly. Though, I don’t want to carry the guilt of needing 2 more planets in order to accommodate us if we all live the same lifestyle I do, I would start eating less meat and eggs.

3. Supporting the cause of international Climate Change campaigners

Lots of climate change campaigners sprung anywhere in this world. However, as a common people, how much of our time is spent on understanding what these campaigners are talking about? How much of our action reduced or increased the vulnerability of the poor people against the threat of climate change? Either we are student, a facebook-er, twitter-er, teacher, farmer, a couch potato, or whatever we label ourselves – let’s learn how serious climate change threats are to humanity and earth and we shall spread the word either using our social media presence (the way I am doing today).

Through facebook, I registered myself as a fan of different organizations working with a humane cause like Greenpeace, Oxfam, Medecins Sans Frontieres.

And I wanna share with you these one of the interesting images that tackles about how climate change hits poor people.

Watch the Face the Music animated video.

Or become a climate activist here!

How about you? What would you do to help save Mother Earth?

I care a lot about the world, and there are many out there who thinks the same way we do. I just hope there are more actions on government and intergovernmental organisations side.
